Placing Components on a PCB

You can keep working with your project or open it from the Workspace and continue from where the previous step is completed.

Place components as shown below.

To move a component to the required location, select it and click and hold on it and drag the mouse. To rotate, press the Spacebar key while moving. Move to the opposite side of the PCB with the L key. However, in our case, it is more convenient to place components by specifying exact coordinates in the Properties panel.

Note: When moving components on the board, there are 3 modes: Ignore, Push, Walkaround. The names speak for themselves, and you can switch between them by pressing R while moving a component with the mouse cursor.

The image below shows coordinates, placement side, and rotation angle of each component.

When placing components and performing other manipulations in the PCB editor, it is convenient to use the PCB panel. This panel opens the same way as the other panels. You can learn more about it here.

Note:  For a quick search and component placement on the board, in addition to the PCB panel, it is convenient to use a schematic. Select a component in the schematic - it will be highlighted on the board. To do this, Cross Select Mode must be enabled in the Tools menu of the schematic editor. To enlarge the area of the component on the board - check the Zooming checkbox in Preferences » System » Navigation, in the Cross Select Mode section.

The use of two monitors can also help here. One will be used to open the schematic file, the other will be used to open the board. To do this, simply drag and drop the tab with the schematic or board document to the second monitor - the document will be opened in a new window. If you have one monitor - you can split the working area into two parts: to do this, right-click on the tab and select the command Split Vertical. Later, you can merge the working areas with the Merge All command of the same menu.
