How to run a classroom using Altium Workspace

In Altium Workspace, faculty can manage student projects just like companies manage teams, by using users, groups, permissions, and collaboration tools.

First, each student is added as a user in the workspace. Instructors (admins) can:

  • Add students using their email id
  • Assign them to groups (for example: Batch A, Final Year, IoT Project Team)

This makes it easy to organize and manage large classes.

Organizing Students with Groups

Faculty can create groups such as:

  • Class sections (ECE-A, ECE-B)
  • Project teams
  • Lab groups

Students can then be assigned to these groups, so instead of managing each person separately, you can manage them as a team.

Giving Access Rights (Permissions)

One of the most important features is access control:

  • You can decide who can view, edit, or manage a project
  • Example:
    • Students → Can edit their own project
    • Faculty → Full access to all projects
    • Peers → View-only (for review)

This ensures proper control and prevents accidental changes.

Commenting and Feedback

Altium Workspace includes built-in commenting features, which are very useful for teaching:

  • Faculty can leave comments directly on schematics or PCB designs
  • Tag students for specific corrections
  • Provide feedback without needing separate documents

This makes project evaluation interactive and clear.
